PTA and Radiography Faculty Earn Excellence in Teaching Awards

The Clarkson College Faculty Senate presents the Excellence in Teaching Faculty Awards each fall and spring semester to faculty members who demonstrate a commitment to the institution and its students. The committee awarded Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Instructor Caitlin Hebrew, PT, DPT, and Radiography Associate Professor Katie Fulton, M.S., R.T.(R)(VI)(ARRT) as the fall 2019 recipients.

Katie Fulton is an alumna of the Clarkson College Radiography and Medical Imaging programs, and she joined the institution as an assistant professor in 2014. She specializes in pediatrics, cardiac-interventional and vascular-interventional radiography and enjoys sharing these areas of interest with eager students. “My favorite part of working in education are the ‘ah ha’ moments, the moment a student finally understands a difficult concept or finds the advanced modality that they love,” she says. “The best part of being in education is seeing students succeed and sincerely enjoy the field they have chosen.”

On her nomination form, students shared their experiences in her classroom. “Teachers don’t get into education for awards or recognition, but the fact that the students nominate faculty for this award makes it so very special,” she says.

I believe Ms. Fulton deserves this award because she constantly goes above and beyond for each student and faculty member, allowing nothing but excellence in their life. She has pushed me in ways I have never been pushed before, academically and in general life, and I could not thank her enough for it. The excellence she pushed for in the classroom flowed into who I am as a person, and I can confidently say I truly learned and know the material instead of learning it enough to pass an exam and then forget it. Overall, Ms. Fulton is a teacher and person of excellence, and I am thankful I was lucky enough to have her as a teacher. 

Dr. Caitlin Hebrew joined Clarkson College as a faculty member in 2016. She teaches courses in PTA as well as Community Health and continues to practice in the field. In her nomination forms, students and colleagues highlighted her dedication to the profession and passion for educating others. “I truly enjoy spending time with the students and favor the hands-on lab interactions,” she says. “I am very passionate about our profession and like to share my joy and amazement for human sciences with anyone who will listen.”

Dr. Hebrew is extremely encouraging and really makes all of her students feel capable in grasping the material. She also pushes her students to be mindful of their professionalism. She's a proponent of further education, representing the bachelor’s degree program in PTA and encourages all students to believe they'll be great PTAs in the future.

Nominees must exemplify the Clarkson College Values of Caring, Excellence, Integrity, Commitment and Learning and demonstrate a desire to continue the Mission of the College. Recipients must exhibit the ability to:
